STORYLINE
British Entertainer Elton John and longtime mate David Furnish officially married on Sunday on the ninth anniversary of the day they entered into a civil partnership.
The couple converted their civil bond under new laws implemented in England earlier this year that allow same-sex marriages.
John and Furnish planned a celebration at their estate near Windsor Castle west of London, where an A-list crowd could be seen arriving in cars on Sunday evening.
Among the celebrity guests were the British football star David Beckham with his wife, designer Victoria, and British comic David Walliams with his wife, model Lara Stone.
John and Furnish met in 1993.
Both have been active in a number of charities, with John focusing on efforts to combat the spread of HIV and AIDS.
John was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998 in recognition of his charitable works.
